X2 half marathon to raise money for my son
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jordan and I am raising money for a medical machine to help treat and soothe my sons skin.
He was born with a extremely rare genetic SKIN condition called Ichthyosis, Inherited ichthyosis is caused by mutated genes. The person either inherits the genes for this disease from one or both parents or genes changes while the baby is forming inside the womb. As a result, the skin has less filaggrin than it needs. The body needs filaggrin to create a healthy outermost layer of skin.
Without enough filaggrin, the body cannot shed skin cells as it should. The older skin cells build up on the skin’s surface, causing the scale and thickened skin.
This causes my son problems every day in life, it makes his skin extremely dry, uncomfortable and more often than not sore to touch. We bath him in emollients twice a day but his skin is so dry even this isn’t enough. Because of this condition my son does not have the ability to sweat so we have to be vigilant at all times as it is very easy for him to over heat.
He has recently started primary school and came home on the second day saying that he was being “bullied up” and that some of his classmates were trying to pick at his skin and asking why he was different. This is obviously heartbreaking and sprung us into action.
The machine we seek is called a “nanobubbler” and it creates micro bubbles in the bath that are x100 smaller than a jacuzzi bubble, it penetrates under dead skin cells and allows us to simply rub dead skin off his body, we feel it could be a game changer in his care routine and are praying we can get our hands on it!
I will be running two half marathons this year to raise money for this, first being “the deerstalker - an evening half marathon/steeplechase which runs through mountains and rivers” and the second being “ the glencoe half marathon”
Thank you very much for any donations you can manage, it means the world to me and my son!
