PTSD Service Dog Training Cost

I’m Chris Sperry, a 33 year old Army veteran suffering from PTSD. I have the need for a service dog to help me function better while in public and crowds. Mia is my 4.5 year old Boxer/American Bulldog mix. I have had her since six weeks old and have a very special bond. I had her evaluated to see if she would be service dog suitable. Great news, the trainer at BarkerHaus Kennels say she is. Now the training to be a service dog is all that is left to do. I need help as I am 100% disabled and unable to work. I don’t like asking for handouts, but I am truly in need. If you are able to help, I would be very grateful and promise to pay it forward as I am able to.

In late October 2018, I was struggling with some dark thoughts.. I ended up checking myself into the ER for suicidal ideation.... I wanted to die. I couldn’t stand the anxiety attacks any more! I had multiple violent outbursts while attending welding school and finally a complete breakdown the day I checked in. I ended up spending 8 days in El Paso behavioral health (looney bin) to get stabilized. I quit my great job at La Tuna, Federal Prison after 5 years... it became too much for me... i would come home for months every single day after work and hold a loaded gun to my head, but I was never able to pull the trigger... Obviously I have more to do on this earth... so I no longer own any guns by my own choice... I am now on a journey to get my agoraphobia and PTSD under control. I struggle to even go grocery shopping due to crowds and people. I am currently in the process of training my dog Mia to be my service dog with the help of the GoFundMe donations and Tiffany (trainer)at Barkerhaus Kennels... If I have created distance from friends, my apologies... I don’t do it intentionally. I am working hard to beat this and find my new “normal”. I am attending intensive therapy and learning more and more about meditation.. I just feel that it’s best that you know the truth...
