OLLIE VET BILL

Our precious dog Ollie was brutally attacked by a grey pit bull dog just outside the gates of Dayton Valley Dog Park on Monday evening, June 19th, about 6 PM. We had just left the Small Dog area, closed the gate behind us, with Ollie on leash. Our car was parallel parked adjacent to the road and there is a green belt between with a park dedication plaque nearby. Just as we were about to cross the green belt and get into the car, a four wheel camouflage colored UTV side by side vehicle was driving by next to our car with a Hispanic looking male adult, age unknown, and a dark colored dog in the passenger seat. The driver of the vehicle was whistling. I immediately looked up and saw him and his vehicle going by slowly. The next instant my dog cried out loudly and when I turned around, he was being brutally bitten by a grey colored pit bull dog. I dived down and tried to force the dog off mine using my hands and began wrestling trying to get the dog’s grip loosened. I got puncture wounds in my hands and wrist in the process, could feel the dogs teeth penetrating my fingers.
The other dog owner finally came to assist in getting his dog off of mine. This was the only good thing he did over the course of the event. I sat up on the ground with blood running down my hands and voiced my displeasure with what had happened and said something to the effect of WTF! I immediately checked my dog for injury and saw a gash on his side with blood also. I said “Oh, Ollie, now we will have to go to the hospital!” The owner of the attack dog never gave any apology. I asked him his name, and he stated it was Marco or Marcos and that he lived right around the corner and would be right back. I pleaded for him to not leave. He then said “Don’t worry man, I’ll be back” and proceeded to leave possibly driving in the direction of the high school and library.
My dog and I gathered ourselves being in shock( I wish I could have mustered the energy to get my phone out quickly enough and snap a picture of the other dog owner and vehicle) at what had happened, I then went to the car and found a rag to try and stop the bleeding of my hands and wrist and further checked my dog for any other wounds. We waited for about an additional ten minutes or so and the other dog owner never returned. I felt compelled to leave the scene to go flush my and my dog’s wounds with peroxide and do any first aid that my wife and I could after my dog Ollie and I got home.
Unfortunately, the park was fairly empty at that time of evening and there were no apparent witnesses in the vicinity to the attack. There was only a small child on the park swings which is a good distance away and trees in between. I hope getting this information out will help identify this individual as we incurred a $7500 vet bill at Animal Emergency Vet in Reno, to try and save our dog’s life, but had to put him down June 22nd due to infection taking over his body. We are heartbroken that Ollie was taken away from us in such a vicious, unprovoked attack. He truly was the sweetest dog we have ever known and never hurt a thing in his life. My wife started a GoFundMe page while Ollie was in critical vet care to try and alleviate the burden to us of the large vet bill. I have the link below if anyone is interested in helping us. We are fairly new residents and don’t have jobs yet, only relying on my social security income right now.
Thanks for your concern and caring comments.

UPDATE-6/22/23- Ollie has taken a turn for the worse. His lungs are filling with fluid and there is fluid outside his chest cavity. Also, now his kidney function indicators are out of range. Vet not
sure if it is pus or fluid buildup from inflammation in chest. Three more tests to be done.

6/23/23-Our Ollie passed away yesterday due to internal injuries and blood infection. This man got away and now we're left with $7200.00 BILL. We can provide as proof.
