Urgent Help Needed for Union Island
Five months after Tropical Storm Beryl wreaked havoc on the Lesser Antilles, with its heavy rainfall, strong winds, and flooding, disaster relief is still urgently needed! The Cassiopeia Schooner Project is still gathering supplies and resources to support recovery efforts.
Everyday life in Union Island is still far from normal and the rebuilding efforts will still take a long time. Roads are washed out, making transportation difficult. Homes and public buildings sustained a lot of damage. Power Outages are still Omni present due to downed lines, impacting daily life and the ability of relief services to help. Families are still displaced from their homes; there are still problems with access to clean water; and food insecurity due to the damage caused to the agriculture sector.
Having already delivered 3,5 tons of aid to Carriacou and sending weeks helping with the removal of yachts from the mangroves, we are now in Bequia awaiting supplies to be cleared in St Vincent for us to take to Union Island!
The Cassiopeia Schooner Project Has worked with other relief organizations like The Hope Fleet, Hurricane Beryl Relief Fund, Cruisers Aid, Operation Refloat and Recovery , and other groups gathering supplies and resources to support recovery efforts. Your donations are highly needed to help us deliver these supplies to the people of Union Island!
The need to provide food, clean water, medical supplies, school supplies and agricultural supplies are still very high for those affected.
On top of this The Cassiopeia Schooner Project hopes to work with the Union Island community on rebuilding and strengthening infrastructure to better prepare for future storms. If you are a carpenter and want to join us please get in touch.
If you're looking for more specific details or updates about ongoing recovery efforts, let me know!
While we still envision building a fleet in Carriacou, but our immediate priority is assisting our friends on Union Island. We’re delivering supplies gathered by The Hope Fleet using Cassiopeia II, and we need your help. Your donations will go towards fuel, provisions, and ensuring our vessel operates smoothly as we deliver much-needed support.

The Cassiopeia Schooner Project does many things all across the West Indies. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all donations are tax-deductible, making your contribution a nice tax write off for you.
We are also working on extending our reach! More ships will be built in the future to help on many locations at the same time. Multiple ships will also allow us to make sure we can sustain our presence and be more than just immediate disaster relief. The Cassiopeia Schooner Project is getting involved with communities all around the West Indies in a meaningful and culturally appropriate manner to help them create and implement holistic local solutions. So together we can use existing local knowledge supplemented with current innovations to help them fight the effects of climate change and restore nature in the process.
Unfortunately, the area where we planned to build our fleet has also been devastated by hurricane Beryl. Beryl was very unusual storm and is a solid indicator that our climate is changing, something we’ve been advocating against for years. But we’re dreamers with a mission: to create resilience in coastal communities facing inevitable challenges.
The fact that we will build the fleet in the West Indies is also part of our commitment to strengthening their economy.
Visit cassiopeiaschoonerproject.org to download our mission statement and learn more about our innovative disaster response strategies.
As a token of our appreciation, anyone who contributes over $10 will receive a free eBook, "From The Bottom Up," written by Harold about my adventures on the first Cassiopeia. A true page turner, which will hopefully inspire you to follow your own dreams.
Thank you for your support, and let’s make a difference together!
