Elijah is a 16 year old Junior at Daviess County High School. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 he was hit by a SUV while crossing Old Hartford Road on his bicycle. He was taken to Owensboro Regional Hospital and then sent by life flight to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, where he is currently in the PICU.
He has multiple injuries including an orbital fracture that extends into deep sinus cavity, air pocket around the brain in connection with that fracture, broken scapula, broken ribs, bruised left lung with swelling, broken right pelvis front and rear, severely broken right ankle, spinal fracture of the T7 vertebrae.
Elijah had surgery on Wednesday, September 23 to stabilize this right ankle. The ankle is broken in 3 places and extends into the ankle joint. It is a devastating injury. He will have a more extensive surgery in 10-14 days.
We have been told multiple times in the past 24 hours that Elijah is a miracle. We are so blessed and thankful that he is ALIVE! He has a long road to recovery and what we appreciate most is your prayer. Elijah is one of 10 children and his siblings, especially the younger ones, have been very emotional and distraught. It is very difficult to see their brother in so much pain and so sick. We appreciate your prayer for them as well.
I have no idea what we will face financially through all of this but honestly that is the least of our concern at this time. I started this GoFundMe more specifically to try and raise enough money to purchase Elijah a new iPhone. His was destroyed in the accident and you know how teenagers love their phones. I believe his advocate at school is also working to help raise money toward this goal.
Please know that any additional money raised will be used for Elijah's needs, travel to appointments, meals during hospital stays, gas for travel, and out-of-pocket medical expenses.
To everyone who has been so supportive and kind, there are no words. Thank you for loving and lifting up our precious boy.
