Fisher Fund
Tax deductible
“Making an impact” is a common phrase in society today. Some strive to do it throughout their career. Others try to do it through volunteer work. Making an impact cannot be measured; rather, it’s a feeling. In the days following the sudden passing of Fisher, his golden retriever and Crystal Mountain’s K9 Ambassador, Jeff Rabidoux was humbled by how far-reaching Fisher's love and loss were felt. His social media platforms were filled with consoling messages, many from people who were inspired by his life and felt a connection with him, many who had never met him in person. Some “Fisher Fans'' expressed an interest in making a donation in Fisher’s honor and asked if we had a favorite charity.
He and his wife, Katie, discussed how wonderful it would be if tribute contributions could benefit our local community. They called their veterinarian, and she shared the most difficult part of her job: a situation where someone has a pet in need of medical services and has no ability to pay. The "Fisher Fund" concept was immediately born: a tax-deductible fund that provides veterinarians access to funds for these occasional situations.
The doctors will be the stewards of the funds, and the foundation will not be publicized to assure their discretionary use. Through this Fund, Fisher’s legacy will continue to impact people’s lives, just as he had done throughout his life.
The Fisher Fund exists within the Benzie Sunrise Rotary Club's Rotary Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that receives tax-deductible gifts and makes grants to support organizations that fit their criteria.
