Petition Response From DE Dept. of Justice re: FOIA Violations for Dept. of Education FOIA Request
On March 3rd, 2015 I submitted a FOIA request to the Delaware Department of Education for all contracts and emails between them and the following companies: Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, American Institutes for Research, and Data Recognition Corporation. These are all in regards to Delaware standardized assessments. The DOE came back with an estimate of $8,855. After I filed a complaint with the Delaware Department of Justice, and they found numerous FOIA violations with the DOE in their method of cost estimation, that charge has been reduced to $1725.10. To cover fees associated with this gofundme endeavor, I am adding $150 to cover them for a total of $1,875.
These contracts and emails would give much needed clarity into the Smarter Balanced Assessment and the two main Delaware vendors associated with them: AIR and DRC. As Delaware embarks on an assessment inventory state-wide which now includes the Smarter Balanced Assessment as part of the discussion, it is crucial this information is seen. For most DOE contracts, they are available for public viewing, but not any of these contracts. It is time parents, teachers and schools lifted the veil of secrecy surrounding the high-stakes testing they want our children to take.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
