Michael's Miracle

Michael is 17 year old young man who has Autism. We met Michael and his Mom, Anna Sigelakis, at a day program. Michael has always been a fun loving, vibrant child. Michael loves his iPod and his DVDs. He loves being active and part of the community with his younger brothers. Michael attends the Center for Discovery in Sullivan County, NY. He loves going to school where he tends to farm animals and learns vocational skills. He enjoys trips to the library. He enjoys attending community based programs with his com-hab and respite workers.
In October Michael was diagnosed with strep and received antibiotics which had an adverse effect on his body. Michael has not eaten since October. He now can no longer sit in an upright position due to pressure on his stomach and he is starting to refuse fluids. He has been in and out of the hospital with no diagnosis or solution from the hospitals. He now has to get weekly IV fluids and nutrition treatments.
When Michael was younger his Mother had taken him to a doctor on Long Island for a similar reaction to strep. This Doctor had recommended Oxygen Hyperbaric Chamber treatment. This treatment proved to be very successful for Michael.
Michaels Family has now seen this Doctor once again. The Doctor has recommended a more vigorous treatment plan using the Oxygen Hyperbaric Chamber because of the build up of yeast and bacteria within Michaels gut. the Doctor has said It’s inflammatory bowel disease. Due to the strep in the beginning of October and the strep bacteria attacked his digestive and immune system. Bloodwork shows cell issues in his small and large intestines and immune weakness, where it can’t fight infection.
If Michael does not receive this treatment he will inevitably wind up with a feeding tube and a decreased quality of life, have to live with constant pain and feel as if his insides are attacking him .Without treatment he would also need to be placed in a home that could take long term care of him.
The hope for his Family is that this treatment can save his life as well as his quality of life and will allow him to remain home with them where he belongs and is so loved. They want the light to be brought back in his eyes and smile.
This treatment is not covered by Insurance. We are seeking these donations to ease the cost of the treatment on the family as well as help with travel to and from treatments and other supplies for home care.
We have started this GoFundMe to help a family that we have grown to have has friends. We have seen Michael grow through working with him in community based programs and have fostered an amazing relationship with him and his Family. We hold them dear in our heart and hope and pray we can make this Miracle for Michael happen.
