Help Randy battle Lymphoma Leukemia

Hi, My name is Kristina and this gofundme page is to help Randy, a long-time friend of mine, and his family; relieve some financial stress as he continues his fight against Lymphoma Leukemia. This is one of the most aggressive and reoccurring cancers there are. Randy is 44 years old and resides in Escanaba, Michigan. Being disabled from previous spinal injuries, funds are very limited. Randy is a humble, kind-hearted, honest guy. He would do anything for his family. He has a 17-year-old son, who he loves more than anything. Hunting, fishing and being in the woods are great passions of Randy’s.

On the 4th of July, 2022, Randy came down with an unexplained high fever that continued for about a month. Doctors did many tests and could not determine the cause. Then he started getting pains in his side and went to the Emergency Room. The results were not good. Imaging showed extensive masses in his liver. This isn’t news that anyone wants to hear.

The next step was to see an Oncologist to figure out exactly what he was dealing with. After a liver biopsy, it was determined that he has Lymphoma Leukemia. Without any treatment, Randy was looking at possibly 2 months to live. A PET scan showed cancer had metastasized all over as it was being spread in his blood. At this point, there was a referral to U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI, for a second opinion to confirm that this was exactly what they were dealing with. They agreed, and Randy was started on chemotherapy every three weeks for 6 rounds which he has tolerated well. A second PET scan after the fifth treatment has shown a drastic change in the cancer cells present and gives good evidence that the treatments have been effective. However, because of the Leukemia aspect, it will only be a matter of time before the cancer cells build back up.

The next step in Randy's fight is a stem cell transplant at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor after the New Year. With this, there will be many trips back and forth which is 6.5 hours from home, with some extended stays in hotels over a long period of time. Gas, lodging, food, etc., all add up very quickly.
