Xander’s hearing test is complete, but the PET scan did not happen today. The care conference is complete.
What we learned today:
-Xander has a high risk germ cell tumor, grade 3 or possibly grade 4 based on the PET scan results and its location makes it tricky. His oncologist has seen this type of tumor in this location just twice in his career
-he will have a PET scan tomorrow
-Chemotherapy starts tomorrow after the PET scan
-He will be receiving chemotherapy for 8 to 12 weeks
-He will remain in the hospital for his first full cycle of chemotherapy and after that will be determined by how he tolerates the chemotherapy, most likely he will stay in the hospital for each 5-day round
-The pediatric oncologist does bedside magic for his patients, and tonight did a magic trick for Xander that was quite impressive ♠️
Thank you all for your love, thoughts, prayers and support. Xander is feeling the love!
Thank you again,
Sara

Hello everyone, Just wanted to have a place to share updates as we sort out what Xander’s diagnosis and treatment is and walk this journey together. Thank you all for your love and support.
After taking him to urgent care and the ER yesterday, it was discovered that he has a very large anterior mediastinal mass and the medical team was amazed that he has been able to dance and play basketball with how big it is and where it is in his chest. It is displacing his trachea and aorta as well as very near his heart/lungs.
So far he has had a lot testing, and we know some of his labs are abnormal but until they get a biopsy of the mass they cannot say for sure what it is or what treatment needs to be. He should be going for his biopsy soon, around 1pm. He will be awake for that and is hoping he can eat immediately after the biopsy.
Keep all of your thoughts, prayers and best wishes coming. They are holding us up during this scary time.
Thank you all,
Sara
