ANYONE INTERESTED IN HELPING EDUCATE CHILDREN THROUGH SPORTS
I am a basketball coach in Brooklyn, N.Y. I have been coaching basketball for ten years. I started coaching in my native country of Haiti, but I currently work at the Basketball Academy of Long Island. From Haiti to the United States, I have seen first-hand the very positive impact that sports, (basketball in particular) can have on a child's mental, social, and physical development.
I am part of an organization establish in 2014 called “Nouvelle Perspective Sport et Education,” the main objective of our organization is to educate underprivileged youth through sports. During the summer of 2015 and 2016, we collectively amassed funds of our own to organize two basketball camps in two cities free of charge.
The response was overwhelming, we had a turnout of over 160 kids each year. The children loved it. The parents and the community were very appreciative of the opportunity we were able to provide to their children. However, given our limited amount of funds, we were only able to provide refreshments for the kids and unable to accommodate as many kids as we could have otherwise.
Our goal for this year is to allow our organization to provide this opportunity on a larger scale. We would like to organize six basketball camps in six different cities and accommodate over 500 kids. Therefore, we are looking for funding to provide a hot meal for each kid everyday and organize a tournament at the end of each camp. The donations we receive will go towards the purchase of camp shirts, uniforms for the tournaments, basketball materials such as balls, cones, horizontal ladders, refreshments and food to help replenish as well as feed the kids.
This will give our organization the opportunity to extend the time for each camp. It will also give the kids a chance to enjoy some extracurricular activities in addition the kids will learn the fundamentals of game of basketball along with an introduction to the English language. I can guarantee that your donation will be put to excellent use!
