Washington, D.C. or Bust!

Hi, my name is Tim Meehan and I am the social studies teacher at High Horizons Magnet School in Bridgeport, Connecticut. I am taking a busload of students to Washington, D.C., for 4 days from May 30 to June 2nd, 2023. I have been taking Bridgeport middle school students to D.C. every other year since 2005, that was until the pandemic canceled our last scheduled trip in 2020. We were able to return all of the money that we collected 3 years ago when we were charging $499 per student. Three years later and with inflation, our cost per student is over $670. Our goal this time is to lower the price to $600 to make our trip affordable for our students and parent chaperones attending the trip. As part of our fundraising in the past, we had been able to raise money through DonorsChoose, an organization that helps teachers with financing school supplies and field trips. Unfortunately, they are still in pandemic mode and are only financing virtual field trips at this time, which does not help us. We are turning to Gofundme this year to help us out. Raising these funds lowers every student and chaperone's cost by $20 which goes a long way in reducing the overall cost by $70 per person. It will also help cover the cost of 1 lunch not provided by the contract with the travel agent. We are asking friends, relatives, former students and parents, the local community and people who just want to make an amazing trip a little cheaper for some great middle school kids to donate!
