Frank McCammon’s life changed forever on September 24, 2016. As he was driving home from his shop, Gabriel’s Garage in Ross, Ohio, he suffered a stroke and blacked out. His truck went off the road and rolled several times down a hill. Still alive, he was rushed to UC Hospital’s trauma unit.
His injuries—broke every bone in his face, broke four ribs, broken sternum, broke his pelvis, broke left leg, broke right foot, broke back and had spinal fusions. He suffered complete loss of vision in both eyes—his right eye was eventually removed from severe infection and his left eye had the optic nerves severed which can never be repaired.
He underwent nine different surgeries within five days (September 24th to September 29th). After four weeks, he began to come back to his loved ones.
Then he was transferred to Drake for rehabilitation. After four weeks of rehab, he was able to go home.
He is currently learning to walk again and he will need training to learn how to live as a blind man.
Frank has been a mechanic for 30 years and is the owner/operator of Gabriel’s Garage in Ross, Ohio. He will never return to this lifelong career and passion of being a mechanic. In fact, he will never work again, he will never drive again, nor will he ever ride his Harley Davidson again.
Frank remains a loving man with a beautiful spirit. He has always been a kind, giving man. He is still thankful and he works every day to recover from his injuries. His attitude is amazing.
Frank has given of himself many, many times. He has been a care giver to his handicap sister for the past nine years since the death of his mother. He has fixed customers’ cars knowing they would not be able to pay him. He never complained and was always glad to help.
Now Frank needs help. His wife, Lisa, has not been able to work since she is now Frank’s care giver. Their bills have been piling up over the past several months and there is no relief in sight. Any assistance is welcomed and greatly needed. Please help Frank and Lisa through this most difficult time.
