We need your help.
As you may or may not have heard a wildfire swept through Willow, Alaska between June 14 and June 21st. The Sockeye Fire, as it is being called, destroyed 55 homes and numerous out building. Our neighborhood was one of those affected. Our home was saved, but many were not. One of those lost belonged to a close personal friend of ours, Paul Flath, aka The Fly Man.
Paul lived in 1960’s era bus that he had converted into a mobile home. He rented space on a piece of property just four doors down from us. When the fire hit, he had just minutes to grab his belongings and leave. He escaped with one backpack full of personal items, the clothes on his back, and the ATV he rode out on. Everything else was lost. The Bus was melted by the heat of the fire.
Paul is a 74 year old Vietnam War Veteran who lives on a very small social security disability check that he receives every month. He could not have had fire insurance on the bus even if he could afford it. He lost his entire world and doesn’t have the ability to rebuild it alone. So we are asking for your help.
Our goal is to raise enough money through donations to build Paul a small cabin that he can live in. Several businesses in Willow have already started collection jars, and a local contractor has volunteered his time to the building project. The owners of the property where Paul lived have agreed to let him move back. What we desperately need is money for building materials. We have set up an account in Paul's name at our local Credit Union to receive donations. Any amount will help.
