24 Then Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. 25 When he saw that he had not prevailed against him, he touched the socket of his thigh; so the socket of Jacob's thigh was dislocated while he wrestled him. 26 Then he said, "Let me go, for the dawn is breaking." But he said, "I will not let you go unless you bless me." 27 So he said to him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Jacob." 28 He said, "Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed." Genesis 32:24-28 NASB
As many of you know by now, Steven Kelly went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 21st 2015; Father's Day. Steven was only 23 years old. Left behind are many beloved family members, peers, coaches and children whom all loved Steven with many fibers of their hearts. Steven was a child of our King. I tell you that to warm your heart; to quicken your mourning, for sorrow is not what Steven's aim would ever be. His 23 years here on earth, though shorter than our carnal minds would hope for, were certainly not a waste. I am sorry we don't have more time with him, but can only think of a small minority within this great community that could ever leave such an impact in such a short time. He was a laser focused son, student, friend and wrestler. His wit, charisma, drive were seen by many in the classroom and on the wrestling mat. He continues to make everyone in his sphere of love laugh still today, and will continue to as we remember the many ways he raised our spirits.
I am jealous of where he is now and we all should remember that beyond this temporary world is a free and eternal peace that is unfathomable. Steven was chasing this peace every day. He longed for it and it was confusing to this world. He pursued the Lord and He welcomed him with open arms.
Steven's family needs our help. We call upon the wrestling community local a abroad to rise up and serve the Kelly family monetarily to help fund this unexpected expense. As a community we can make this pain more temporary for them if we come together and support. His family is very strong; a family of wrestlers. Let's not let them carry this alone. We are all family and must bind our hearts together for this cause. Please continue to pray for them and we are believing and praying with them that the Lord will meet this need.
