Xena's Story

Donation protected
Our smart and vibrant Neice and Granddaughter Xena who's just 4 years old was just diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia)

On February 28th Xena's parents Kathleen (our sister and daughter) and Stefano received the news thats every parents nightmare, being told your child has cancer. ( ALL Leukaemia)

Xena and her parents (Kathleen and Stefano) live in a small town in Summerland BC where they rent a small house. In January she was sick, her first visit to the hospital they were told it was just a virus, where they did a swab and sent them home. They later called them to say she had influenza A but was never given medication and she never got better. They then took Xena back to the ER demanding an Xray, where it then revealed she had a bit of pneumonia. She received medication, but she didn’t seem to be getting better.

Then a week later her fever wouldn't break, she was weak to the point she would say it hurt to walk. Xena then saw her pediatrician, where they did blood work and tests showed her platelets were low. The Doctor advised them to go to the ER.

Hospital paediatrician then did an ultrasound that showed an inflamed spleen and Liver. The doctors made the call to transport them to the Vancouver Children's hospital which is a 4.5 hour drive from their home to receive Bone marrow surgery. Where test results confirmed Leukaemia.

She then received another surgery the following day to put a port in her chest for Chemotherapy, blood work and because her hemoglobin were also low she needed a blood transfusion.

They began chemotherapy right after the port was put in. The other night her Oxygen level was low, she had a fever again and her heart rate went up.

So far its been a very bumpy road, they aren't sleeping, they can't work, they have no income as they had to give up their jobs and had to give up their rental home in Summerland to be by her side. They were told her Chemotherapy treatments will be 6-8 months, in the hospital many times a week.

Any donation will help them with expenses and daily needs to help care for their daughter.

We appreciate and thank everyone in advance for all the love and support they've given in this very difficult tragedy our family is going through
