John's Medical Expenses

Hello family + friends -

My dad John, is visiting us in Las Vegas and is now stuck here indefinitely. He has muscular dystrophy (MD) and therefore, has very limited mobility. He is in a powered wheelchair and requires specific medical treatments multiple times per day to keep strength in his body.

Last Saturday as he was being dressed in bed, him he out of the bed and broke his shoulder. He is in the process of further testing to determine if surgery is necessary. Typically, a shoulder break would be manageable. But because of his MD, there are several complexities to his journey and his stay in Las Vegas will be extended due to his medical complications.

He has an ostomy bag, very low muscle tone, and has limited use of his extremities (he cannot walk and needs to be lifted to bed, vehicles, etc. Now with his shoulder injury, we cannot adequately transfer him until he is healed. He is in his chair 24/7 at this point, without relief.

To make his recovery journey best, we are trying to get him a medical bed with an air mattress to rent while he is in Las Vegas, as well as a van with wheelchair accessibility. We are also working with his MD doctors and the orthopedic team out here to navigate ways he can return to his daily medical treatments so we can continue to keep the rest of his body healthy and strong during his recovery.

While he does have insurance, there is not coverage for renting the vehicle or medical bed.

We cannot begin to imagine the physical, emotional, and mental pain this is causing him. Being stuck in your chair 24/7, unable to leave the house with your family, and have the expenses piling up.

If you know John, you know he is a man who would do anything for anyone. So we are asking for support for him during this time. We are raising funds specifically for him to be able to get a bed and a wheelchair accessible van to rent while here in Vegas for the next few months, as well as for his surgeries and treatments that may be necessary during his time here.

We would greatly appreciate any support, as it makes it possible for him to have a peaceful time with us during his recovery.
