Hello,
My name is Marie-Sophie and I raise funds for the association Tennis For All Uganda (TFAU) of which I am a board member.
Based in Kampala, Uganda, created in 2012 by two tennis coaches, Vincent and Julius, their motto Mobilize, Educate, Empower sums up their activity well.
MOBILIZE: through tennis, they offer girls and boys from slums the opportunity to discover a sport and the values attached to it (joy in learning, sense of effort, punctuality, respect for others and equipment, self-commitment, pleasure to play...). A hundred children take part in training, tennis tournaments and sessions during school holidays.
EDUCATE: these children from very disadvantaged backgrounds do not always have regular access to education, families, most of the time single-parent families, cannot afford school fees. The COVID period has been an extremely aggravating factor that has left families without resources and children out of school for almost two years.
TFAU supports the entire education of 40 young people in primary and secondary.
Tutoring classes have also been set up.
TFAU also offers computer classes, sewing, chess lessons, meetings with health professionals to talk about AIDS, teenage pregnancies, abuse, violence, children's rights.
EMPOWER: TFAU helps and guides these young people so that they become autonomous and responsible adults, actors in their lives and in their community.
Many seniors kids help with the training, happy to pass on to the younger ones what they have received from TFAU.
We are facing a major challenge, to sustainably finance the tuition fees of these young people for the year 2023/2024.
Tuition in primary costs about 220 euro per year and 440 euro in secondary. This rate takes into account school fees, supplies, compulsory sportswear and uniform. The families take care of the food.
Education is essential in my eyes, it is the key to envisaging a more serene future and breaking out of the vicious circle of poverty and ignorance.
I appeal to your generosity to finance the schooling of these children, to give them self-confidence, to show them their value and to offer them the possibility of a better life.
