Help Xhopakelxhit's Works
My name is Xhopakelxhit.
I am a Coast Salish, Nuu-Chah-Nulth, and Snuneymuxw Matriarch, medicine maker, water protector and traditional midwife. For many years I worked under the project Ancestral Pride, work I shared with my Husband, Crow, a warrior and father beloved across many Nations, communities, and front lines. I have spent 4 years grieving and now am ready to lay to rest Ancestral Pride and that piece of shared work to allow my new work to rise, the Ocean Wolves. With the love and encouragement of my family I walk forward into this new work with pride, dignity, and purpose.
My work with Ocean Wolves cannot be done without your love and support. I have a trusted team of much valued and loved supporters some of whom have been with me for near a decade, some whom are new. The piece we ask for here is the funding to launch and carry Ocean Wolves forward in a good way.
At this time the work includes 4 areas interwoven like my Auntie's cedar: Accountability for Residential Schools, Xhopakelxhit’s Apothecary: Medicines for the People, Creating a Culture of Resistance, and Creating and Building on Indigenous Capacity in the DTES.
Xhopakelxhit’s Apothecary and Medicine
Our people are hurting from elders to children. Everyone I speak to in my family, among my people, their bodies are holding this trauma, their bodies are aching.
While doing the work of holding those responsible for harm accountable we must also hold each other up. This piece of the work involves me visiting the Elders, the Survivors in my home community as well as on neighbouring reservations to hand deliver medicines I have made, tell them I love them, thank them for living. My family, community, my people need medicines made in a good way, medicine made with teachings, intentions and love. I want to provide this.
To do this work I need to replace all of the medicine making tools that were stolen this last year. I also need to order items like containers, essential oils, and beeswax.
These medicines will also be made available to the general public in order to generate the funds necessary to continue to provide free medicines to survivors and the children here today.
Farewell to Ancestral Pride
Ancestral Pride, Crow and I have accomplished a lot together, many cherished and beloved memories as we traveled near and far to help other Indigenous resistors.
From stopping the mining of our sacred mountain Chitaapi, to evicting a fish farm with the Yaakswiis Warriors, and so many other numerous victories including living and fighting alongside our Lakota Tiyospye at Oceti Sakowin or Standing Rock for more than 6 months.
In all honesty I could go on for paragraphs, Crow was life, he was the heart and spirit of Ancestral Pride. We could not have accomplished those things without being together and this is why it is time to let go. For those who knew Crow and I, thank you for all the support over the past 4 years
In honour and respect I am retiring Ancestral Pride. That was the work Crow and I took on together, and simply put I cannot go on without him as he was the drive of Ancestral Pride.
As a final farewell I will be printing commemorative Ancestral Pride t-shirts and bandanas and making them available for sale as a way to raise funds for the new work of the Ocean Wolves. Funds are needed to cover the initial cost of printing.

It's time to dig deep.
Reconciliation means ending ongoing genocide now, it means redistributing the intergenerational wealth you and your family have accumulated on our stolen lands. Lands stolen through the removal of our children to residential schools, and their abductions by the MCFD. Your work as settlers is to unsettle yourselves and dig deep.
