In Loving Memory of Cheryl Grimes
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Courtney Gaspin. As many of you are now aware, on Sunday April 14, 2024, we unexpectedly lost the most incredible woman - my mom, Cheryl Grimes, at the age of 58. She was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend… the list goes on. With her being so young and healthy prior to this incident, we were not prepared for her passing. We are facing a heavy financial burden. In honor of Cheryl's memory, we kindly request that in lieu of flowers, you consider making a donation to our GoFundMe campaign to help cover some of the costs of saying goodbye to our mom - cremation, the service, and recent medical bills.
On March 11th, mom went to the hospital in severe pain and ended up being transferred to the University of Maryland Medical Center with multiple blood clots that prevented blood flow to her intestines. In the month that she was in the SICU at the hospital, she ended up having five major surgeries and countless complications. She fought hard and even shocked the doctors on multiple occasions when they thought she wouldn’t pull through. Unfortunately, while hospitalized, they discovered she had a rare form of Leukemia called CMML that was preventing her body from healing properly. Despite how hard she fought, ultimately, her bowel died. Surgeons were not able to safely go back in for another surgery, so on April 8th, we made a very difficult decision to remove the ventilator and move her to her mother’s house to live out her remaining days surrounded by her family and dog. On the afternoon of April 14th, she took her last breath with her loved ones by her side.
Mom was a force of nature with her lively personality, a heart that could light up a room, and the most incredible baking skills. She was the center of our world, and her absence leaves a void that will never be filled.
We are truly grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have received during this time. Whatever you can give means the world to us right now. Your donations, no matter how small, will make a huge difference for us as we try to navigate this dark time. Thank you for being there for us, for loving Mom like we do, and for keeping her memory alive. She'll always be in our hearts, and your kindness will never be forgotten.
