Help Sophia Smile

In August 2022, we were told our sweet 9-year-old Sophia had DIPG, something we had never heard of. Terminal brain cancer. The only current treatment is 30 rounds of radiation therapy. Sophia bravely received this treatment daily for six weeks and completed treatment in September 2022. Sophia had a follow-up MRI six weeks later and the news was grim. We were told to go home and make memories because she only had weeks to live. Sophia, now 10, has since proved this to be untrue and is still fighting for her life and her parents are fighting for her.
In February 2023, we had a meeting with a new doctor to get information about a newer treatment for DIPG. This drug has been shown to have success in children with DIPG and Sophia’s doctors believe it would be a good next step because, at this point, there is no next step. There will be travel and other expenses.
Sophia keeps showing us how strong she is. As Amy, Sophia's mom, says “Sophia is still here for a reason and I think this is it”. The support we have been receiving from family, friends and complete strangers is amazing. We keep Sophia in the loop and I truly believe that all the positive messages are helping keep her going so please keep praying for her and keep seeing her in a positive way!
DIPG is often seen as the worst cancer diagnosis a child could receive. It is hopeless and heartbreaking. But if anyone can change it around it is Sophia.
We are asking for donations to help cover the costs. We thank everyone for their support!
