Mary Segal's Dental Surgery Fund

Donation protected
Friends and family, Mary needs your help.

For more than five years now, our mom has been struggling with cascading dental problems. Despite countless expensive treatments and a meticulous attention to her dental hygiene, Mary’s dental health has been steadily worsening, and it has hurt her quality of life.

Last month, two of Mary’s top incisors broke off the bridge she had gotten just a year before. When she went to have the teeth fixed again, the dentist gave her news she had been dreading: she needs to have dental implant surgery, which will cost $35,000.

If you know Mary, you know she is exceedingly independent and resourceful. This is a challenge, however, that she can’t manage all on her own. So we’re asking for your help. Mary has mentored and supported so many people, inspiring them through her art, garden, and teaching. Now she needs the help and support of her community.

How you can help

The best way to help is by contributing to this fundraiser. We know finances are tight for many of us now, but if you can give even just a few dollars, it will bring Mary closer to being able to afford her surgery.

You can also help by sharing this gofundme link on social media and sending it to anyone you think might want to contribute.

Why Mary needs implants

The three dentists Mary has consulted advised her against another bridge, which they say will likely fail soon. She has explored and exhausted all other options; the only choice now available to her that will allow her to eat and talk comfortably is implants. Full dentures are the other option, but they require more maintenance, don't last as long, and crucially, are far less comfortable.

Implants, which last a lifetime, are a much better choice for Mary. They don’t negatively affect speech, make eating difficult, or affect the sense of taste, as dentures can. And implants also make further bone loss much less probable.

Since Mary is now missing two of her top incisors, she hopes to get the surgery as soon as possible.

Treatment plan and costs

The benefits of dental implants make them the right choice for our mom, but dental implant surgery is very expensive. Even if Mary had dental insurance, it would only cover a small proportion of the costs.

Mary needs 5 implants, and each costs a total of $3,000:

·      5 extractions at $300 each: $1,500

·      5 endosseous implants at $2,000 each: $10,000

·      5 bone grafts at $700 each: $3,500

The additional charges from the prosthodontic dentist will include

·      Provision MAX hybrid: $6,500

·      MAX hybrid prosthesis: $13,000

Total costs: $35,000

Every contribution helps

Whether you can give a small amount or you can afford to give more, your contribution will help Mary get the surgery she urgently needs. Gofundme takes 2.9% of each contribution made on the platform, so if you want Mary to receive the full amount you donate, you can send it to her Paypal account: [email redacted] or mail her a check at PO Box 861, Roseland FL 32957.

Thank you for helping restore our mom’s beautiful smile, her dental health, and her quality of life.
