Harrison’s medical equipment

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Beth & I’m raising money for my cousin Harrison. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone as strong and determined as this lad and now, he needs some help and I’ve decided he’s dealt with enough without having to worry about having equipment to help him hear and get up the stairs.

Due to a growth behind his ear, he can’t use NHS prescribed hearing aids and the cost is £3000 for a new pair. He also needs to have a stairlift fitted, as due to his medical needs, he is unable to get up and down the stairs, which costs £600. The wait list is so long, that he has no other option other than to pay.

Please read his story below- if the least I can do it to help take the stress away just a little bit, it’s the least I can do after all he has been through.

Harrison was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when he was 6 weeks old and when he turned 8 years old, things slowly started to go down hill. He had to have a feeding tube fitted and he also had his stomach tied due to vomiting continuously. Following this, he was hospitalised numerous times and then given intravenous antibiotics.

At the young age of 12 years old, he was put on the lung transplant list and unfortunately deteriorated very quickly. Due to this, he had to be homeschooled, was wheelchair bound and was on oxygen 24 hours a day.

Two years later, Harrison and his family were told the devastating news that there was nothing more they could do for him and he was told to go home and wait to die.

Luckily, 24 hours later the call came that a donor had been found and for the next 6 months, everything was going really well for Harrison.

Just when everything was going well, he was rushed back to hospital with suspicion that his new lungs were rejecting. Six litres of fluid were removed from his lungs and once again, Harrison’s strength, determination and courage saw him fighting back to health.

For the next two years, he was back to his strong self. But yet again, Harrison was back to ill health and was diagnosed with Post Transplant Lymphoma Disease and for 6 months underwent chemo. They removed the tumour in his spleen but then realised after a collapse, he had issues with his kidneys and needed yet another transplant.

Unfortunately, his heart wasn’t strong enough and was unable to have the transplant. Things took yet another turn for the worst and Harrison was rushed into hospital and had an emergency dialysis line fitted, was put into a coma. After coming out to the coma, Harrison began dialysis treatment

Once again, things started to pick up and Harrison had to attend hospital daily for 8 hours in order to get his dialysis treatment. His wonderful mum (and my wonderful auntie) trained how to complete the dialysis treatment at home, so he didn’t have to attend hospital for such long periods of time.

Six years passed and Harrison was placed back on the transplant list, despite suffering a cardiac arrest within the six years. Due to all the medication he had been on over the years, Harrison suffered with his eye sight, his hearing and has had a condition that affected his ability to swallow. Due to this, he had to have liquidised food for 6 months. He since has had his oesophagus stretched six times which had been a success, but it is always a worry it may come back.

Recently, his mobility has taken a turn and he was unable to walk and has since had to learn how to walk, but with limitations.

Harrison has had over 20 operations, is a diabetic and has an inflamed bowel. HE IS ONLY 31! It’s crazy to think that one person can go through so much and still be a funny, loving and happy young man. He is the strongest person I know and feeling so helpless to help with any of these things, the least I can do is try to raise some money to take the pressure off him and his family even just the slightest.
