Westlake Grad and Dad, Joey Uriegas, Class of ‘81,  has always been our Warrior.  Our Fighter.  Now, Joey is fighting Huntington’s Disease, the horrible illness that took his beautiful Mother, Leticia.

What Is Huntington’s Disease?

From Huntington’s Disease Society of America-

·        “Huntington’s disease (HD) is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities usually during their prime working years and has no cure.

·        The symptoms of HD are described as having ALS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s – simultaneously.

·        Symptoms usually appear between the ages of 30 to 50 and worsen over a 10 to 25-year period.”

Joey has been diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease for years and is now requiring more specialized care and equipment.

Insurance is covering most of the medical expenses, but seven of his Westlake High School teammates are asking for your help for three specific needs-

1.     Critically needed overnight in-house help to relieve his primary caregiver, his Dad, Jose. Jose, at 81, gets up multiple times per night to assist Joey.

2.     Home modifications including a specially designed shower unit downstairs so that Jose does not have to take Joey up and down the stairs to bath him.

3.     A medical lift chair to tilt Joey back to improve his breathing and the health of his lungs. The chair also has a full power lift to help him in and out of the chair.

Anyone that knows Joey Uriegas will tell you the  two same things- Joey has the biggest heart and would literally give you the shirt off his back. Even when he shouldn’t, he would.

No one is more fiercely protective and supportive of his friends and family than Joey.

Joey doesn’t need your shirt, just a little contribution. Any amount will help and be appreciated.

As you can see, Joey remains the Biggest Fan of Westlake High School and Notre Dame football and never misses a game on radio or TV. Through the amazing efforts of Scott Dolezal, Joey was able to attend Westlake’s 50th Anniversary Homecoming game this Fall.

Special thanks to Jack Hoover and his Westlake Chaparral teammates for sharing their 2019 State Football Championship with Joey. We all cried tears of Joy.
