Dear friends and family,
My name is Ruby Skiffington and I am setting up this GoFundMe on behalf of my husband(Perry Newman). I want to express my heartfelt thanks to those who have shown care and support for my husband over the pass few years. The phone calls, the messages and drop ins are very much appreciated and genuine.
As many of you know, Perry was diagnosed with Parkinson’s back in 2021 and has been in a steady decline ever since. In 2018, Perry started experiencing his first symptoms with the disease. They included stiffness(rigidity) of his fingers in his right hand, loss of smell and slowness in his movements. As the year when on, he was showing signs of anxiety and depression and eventually ended up quitting his job. In the spring 2021, he was diagnosed with Anxiety and Depression and treated accordingly.
Perry was a very active runner for years and loved the outdoors but unfortunately he developed a condition called Dystonia is his right foot. This disorder forced him to retire from from being an active runner to a walker. As time went on, his symptoms got worse and in October of 2021, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson’s don’t wait for anyone or anything, it’s a chronic and progressive disorder. It’s a disease that is destructive and debilitating that attacks your central nervous system and with it, you lose your freedom of being an individual. Saps ones independence and freedom of movement. It doesn't take your life but it does take your pleasure of living. Everyday chore’s become eventful tasks. Things don’t come easy for him anymore. A lot of times people only see the physical, they don’t see what’s underneath. They don't see him trashing around in bed at night, They don't see the medications he takes to slow down the symptoms.. They don't hear about the vivid dreams he has since he contracted this disease. He has many other symptoms as will like constipation, little swing in his right shoulder, masked face , etc. He just recently had his esophagus stretched due swallowing difficultly.
He has done alot of research on Parkinson’s and has a vast knowledge of the disease. Last year, he came across an article claiming to have found an alternate treatment for Parkinson’s. He has listened and learned about this promising treatment. Its called FGF-1(Fibroblast Growth factor 1) where it grows new blood vessels(angiogenesis) in the tissue of the brain, this introduces blood flow in the dopamine(controls movement) producing parts of the brain like the substantia nigra. This treatment seems very promising in treating and possibly reversing the symptoms of PD. This treatment was developed by Zhittya Genesis INC based out of Las Vegas, Nevada and is currently waiting for FDA approval for clinical trials in the United States but this could take years. In the meantime, they have started a research study in the British Virgin Island but it’s patient funded. The cost of the medication is patient funded and it is $50,000 USD plus flights and hotel stays. This could be life altering for him to regain some of his life back that has been stolen from him.

I know we are asking for a lot but please, we have to try to get him to the British Virgin Islands and get this done asap.
Thank you for all your kind words and support.
