Camp Hometown Heroes:

Camp Reunite:

Camp Hometown Heroes welcomes children, ages 7-17, who embody the statement “Freedom is not free.” They have made the ultimate sacrifice of losing a loved one who has served in the military and passed away. Serving children from all over the country, including Hawaii and Alaska, at a vast camp location in Campbellsport, the campers are taken through a journey of healing through play, therapy and bonding. Many come back year after year, and some have transitioned from camper to counselor after much care and trauma-based recreation over the years.

Camp Reunite serves children who have an incarcerated parent in the Wisconsin Criminal System. Through trauma-based care, art therapy and meditation, the program works to curtail the cycle of incarceration, while also reuniting the children with their incarcerated parent during the camp stay. This program serves children ages 7-17.

The Camp Hometown Heroes staff seeks to provide an atmosphere that is physically and emotionally safe for campers of all ages and abilities by offering a wide-variety of activities that push camper(s) to develop skills, friendships and resiliency. We want Turning Rivers to be a place to openly grieve about the loss of a loved one while also serving as a place of healing and hope building. Camp Hometown Heroes is designed to create fun and positive experiences that will last a lifetime for many deserving children. And while Camp Reunite children have not “lost” their parent in the same fashion as their Camp Hometown Heroes peers, our camp staff work to provides children with coping skills, conflict resolution strategies and increased resiliency. Through extended and meaningful visits to the correctional institutions to visit either mom or dad, children have the opportunity to reconnect with their incarcerated parent. As all the children share the bond of having an incarcerated parent, Camp Reunite is a place of unparalleled acceptance and understanding.
