Help me move out of abusive home
Donation protected
My name is Miryam, I'm 21 years old and live with an abusive family. My home environment is violent, with constant screaming and threats. There has been physical abuse before, but it is infrequent. I am being financially taken advantage of as well. I work a physically and mentally demanding low wage job. My income is not enough for me to afford an apartment on my own (I've searched for roommates in the area, but no luck). Yet even with my small income, my mother finds excuses to take money from me each month. This has really hindered my ability to move out on my own. I've put off asking for help for a long time, but I'm desperate.
I've put $7000 as my estimated goal. I may end up lowering or raising this some, depending on what I need. I'm not sure how much expenses will add up to exactly.
However, to be completely transparent, I will outline what the costs are for.
I have a license, car insurance, and know how to drive. But I don't have a car of my own. In order to move out, I will need my own transportation. I estimate the down deposit for a decent used car will be about $2000.
I don't use credit, so in order to be accepted by most apartments I have to prove I can pay the first 3 months. This can be done in a payment upfront. Most decent apartments here are $850-$1200. I'm gonna estimate in the middle and go with $1000. For 3 months that brings me to $3000. However, I'm going to look into low income housing options and see what's available, so this may end up lowering.
There is typically also a move-in fee. This ranges depending on the apartment, so I can't be sure of the exact amount yet. I'm going to estimate $400 though.
I can't rely on my family to help me with the move-out costs, so I will need to hire moving trucks. I'm guessing this will be about $200 for small local trips.
Because I work a low wage job, the money I make at my job during the first few months after I move in will be going towards paying off my car, that way I don't need to worry about being unable to make payments later. However, this means I won't have enough for food and gas. I estimate I'll need about $400 for food and gas for 3 months.
Finally, because I have not selected an apartment yet, I don't know which utilities will be provided vs what utilities I'll have to pay. I also have other monthly bills, such as phone, medical, insurance. I estimate I'll need about $300 a month, resulting in $900 for 3 months.
$2000 + $3000 +$400 + $200 + $400 + $900 = $6900
I am rounding the total to $7000. Again, it is very likely this total will go down. But I figured it best to estimate high for now. I will continue to update this as numbers become more exact. I don't want to take advantage of people or ask for more than I need. Thank you to everyone who donates or shares this, I am so thankful.
