Laz Rojas Permanent Housing
Donation protected
Tireless filmmaker Laz Rojas and his 78-year-old mother have spent the past three years homeless. Through it all, they've maintained hope and nobility and now have a steady income. If you were to meet them, you'd NEVER guess their situation.
But as they were nearing what we were hoping was a housing resolution, Laz's mother fell and broke her hip, making their struggle much more dire. She's currently in the hospital awaiting surgery. He's at her side during the day, and back on the streets at night.
Laz and his mom aren't looking for handouts or temporary fixes. In fact, this GoFundMe effort isn't their idea.
What they DO need is a very modest amount to get them into a rental so she doesn't have to do her recuperation while sleeping in a car. Once the deposit and initial rent is paid, they can cover the rest of their expenses indefinitely.
Naturally, three years of homelessness hasn't been easy on their rental/credit history. So aside from donations, we'd also love to hear of any potential guest houses or apartments that wouldn't necessarily require a formal credit check.
Most of all, they just need to feel human again. So anything that we can all do at any level will genuinely make a difference.
Immediate funds will get Laz into a motel room near the hospital so he can at least not be on the streets while she's in surgery today (Friday the 18th) and while we find a place that will accept their history.
Sincere thanks on behalf of the Rojas family.
