Help Rhian Study Abroad in Spain!

I am asking for donations for my planned study abroad experience in Granada, Spain, which will take place from late January to late May next spring. Capital University only allocates so much institutional aid to the student's chosen program, regardless of student need and financial status.

While I am beyond excited that I have been accepted into my program of choice (the Spanish Language and Culture Program), I am working to gather aid to afford this opportunity. I work part-time at Target while being a full-time student, and I’m hoping my generous friends, family members, and online acquaintances will help support me in this step in my academic career.

Here’s a little bit about me:

I am in my third year at Capital University as a Spanish major with a management minor. I have taken two collegiate years’ worth of Spanish classes in addition to taking Spanish throughout high school, resulting in six consecutive years of learning about the Spanish language and culture. The collegiate courses I have taken have provided me with an array of the fundamental linguistic, cultural, and communication skills necessary to work on incorporating the language into everyday life.

Outside of being a full-time student, I am a current member of Capital’s Gamma Kappa chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon. Last semester, I was inducted into Phi Sigma Iota, a national foreign language society that recognizes outstanding academic achievement in the study or teaching of foreign languages. Outside of Capital, I volunteer when I have free time at a food pantry for The Church on Oakland Park, where I and others put orders of free produce and pantry items together for families and individuals in need.

This fall, I am taking two Spanish classes (Hispanic Culture and Civilization and Communication and Culture) and two business classes (Organizational Behavior and Principles of Marketing). I commute to campus four to five times a week, nearly an 11-mile drive between my home and Bexley.

I was fortunate enough to travel to Europe once before with my high school language department, and since then, it has been a dream of mine to study in another country and pursue my passion for the Spanish language and culture. During my time in Spain, I will take four classes at The University of Granada at their Modern Languages Center, hopefully all in Spanish, and I will live in a homestay near the university.

With all this said, the various scholarships I am applying for to help pay for this experience are up in the air, and any donations would help. No contribution is too small — I am appreciative of all your loose change and spare shillings!

With your help, I can prepare for this experience and focus on my passions without greater financial stress. This privilege does not go unnoticed.

Estoy pidiendo para donaciones para mi tiempo en la extranjera en Granada, España que ocurrirá en la próxima primavera desde enero a mayo porque Capital University solamente da una suma limitada de dinero para el programa independiente de la necesidad y el estatus financiero del estudiante.

Mientras estoy tan emocionada que he sido aceptado mi programa escogido (el programa del idioma y cultura española), estoy trabajando recaudar dinero para permitirse esta oportunidad. Un poco sobre mi:

Estoy in mi tercer año en Capital University estudiando el español y los negocios. También yo paso tiempo como una voluntaria cuando tengo tiempo a un comedor comunitario o ‘food pantry’ donde tenemos comida y productos para aquellos que necesiten.

Este otoño, estoy tomando dos clases de español y dos clases de los negocios. Yo soy una “commuter” — yo conduzco a campus cuatro a cinco días a la semana de mi casa en vez de vivir en campus.

Era afortunada a viajar a Europa durante mi tiempo en la escuela secundaria una vez, y desde entonces lo ha estado un sueño de mío estudiar en la extranjera. Durante mi tiempo en España, tomaré cuatro clases (con suerte todas en español) en la Universidad de Granada en su Centro de Lenguas Modernas mientras me quedaré en un alojamiento en familia cerca de la universidad.

Con esto dicho, las becas varias estoy aplicando por no están prometidas, y cualquiera donaciones ayudarán. Con su ayuda, yo puedo preparar para esta experiencia y enfoco en mis pasiones sin el estrés financiero. Esto no pasa desapercibido.
