Support Jim Joyce's Stroke Recovery

Donation protected
James Joyce, who goes by Jim, began experiencing numbness and weakness in the left side of his body on January 23rd. Jim, along with his loving wife, Janet, and his adoring daughter, Juliana, visited multiple doctors and ER’s in the two weeks leading up to his stroke. After finding two herniated discs, doctors sent him home. However, Jim knew that there was something seriously wrong, but he continued to stay strong and work up until the Friday before his stroke. On Sunday morning, his right side began to turn numb too. The only thing he was able to communicate that morning was, “911.”

He was taken via ambulance to Scranton’s CMC, where he received an immediate MRI. Within an hour, he learned he had 100% blockage of his left carotid artery and 98% in the left. He was transferred to Geisinger Wyoming Valley, with surgery scheduled for Wednesday. However, things quickly turned south. On Monday, the 6th, the Joyce family learned he had experienced multiple Ischemic strokes–one of which his family witnessed. He was rushed into emergency surgery and a stint was successfully placed on his right side. He is currently recovering in the ICU at Wyoming Valley, and will be for some time, before he is moved to a rehabilitation facility where he will receive aggressive physical and speech therapy.

Jim is the main provider for his family, as well as their rock. Loved ones, colleagues, and friends have created this GoFundMe page to cover medical expenses, the loss of income, and the long journey to rehabilitation.

Jim loves Marvel, a hobby he shared with his daughter since she was born. They see every Marvel movie together, but they love Spider-Man the most. He has a goofy personality and is always making jokes, even right up until the stroke. He is the biggest dog lover you’ll ever meet, and his dogs, Bubby and Sully, are missing his daddy terribly. He has been married to his wife, Janet, for more than 30 years. They recently enjoyed a trip to Mystic, Connecticut, a place Jim imagined they might retire to–if he ever retired! Jim has always been incredibly hard working and often had more than one job at a time to support his family, who he adores. Whatever place you know Jim from, whether it be from one of his many jobs throughout his life (Applebees, Home Depot, Ecolab, Cleanslate, and many, many more!), school, family, and so on, you know the type of man he is. He’s Jim Joyce: the best dad, husband, employee, and friend.
