Hello, my name is Dr. Bob Peters and I am a physician in Dallas, Texas. I want to tell you about an amazing couple who can use the support of us all during this challenging time for them.
I have known Tim and Sarah Dingman for several years. Sarah is an excellent, committed cardiac nurse at Children's Medical Center of Dallas. She is beloved by all who know her. When she met and married Tim 2 years ago, we were so excited for Sarah to have a man with such heart and character. When they announced several months ago that Sarah was not only pregnant, but with twin girls at that, everyone rejoiced with and supported them throughout the pregnancy.
On September 5th, Sarah had a scheduled C-section at 37 weeks. She gave birth to Audrey Ann (5 lbs 13 oz) and Charlotte Grace (4 lbs). Both girls are doing well. But while Sarah was still in the operating room, she began to hemorrhage to a point that emergency measures were required, transfusing blood rapidly and using advanced resuscitation to support her blood pressure. Fluid rapidly accumulated in her lungs. These events, combined with carrying twins for 9 months, put great stress on her heart. Her heart began to fail under the load.
Sarah has developed what is known as cardiomyopathy. This is where the heart muscle is so stressed or damaged that it cannot pump blood efficiently. Her cardiac function was reduced to less than 1/2 of normal, which greatly restricts what she is able to do. She will require heart failure medications for several months. Our hope is that with time, her heart can heal itself at least to the point of being able to do the routine tasks of daily living.
Her activity will be severely restricted for the coming months. Because of this, neither she nor Tim will be able to go back to work with new twin baby girls at home. In addition to the unexpected additional medical bills for many days of intensive care, they will be under inordinate financial stress for basic daily living expenses. It is our hope and desire to relieve them from as much of this part of their difficult journey as possible.
Tim and Sarah are such an amazing, giving, and caring couple. Sarah has given so freely of her heart to her patients and their families over the years. We want to give back and support them in their time of difficulty. Please consider giving any amount. If you are unable, at least please pass on their story to others.
