On June 19th, Terra Kelley and John Uttech lost their beloved daughter, Iris, in a tragic accident.
At the age of 14, Iris was a shining light in the lives of her family, friends and community. Full of life, Iris had a thirst for world travelling and experiencing other cultures, as well as for reading and writing stories. She was a motivated student, who had skipped two grades and would be starting her junior year of high school this fall. Her days included spending time with her family, including her younger brother Rhyder, her boyfriend and friends. Her life ended unexpectedly on a swimming outing with friends when she drown in the Upper Sacramento River.
In the days since her death, there has been a tremendous outpouring of love to her family during this heart breaking time: A family friend wrote an original song for Iris, graffiti bridge bore messages of love, meals were delivered, the family’s Facebook feeds are full of love and support, and family arrived to support John, Terra and Rhyder. The family is well loved in Mt. Shasta, where John is the owner of SmallTown Ink, his tattoo shop that he relocated from his hometown of Lake Chelan, Wa.
Funeral services were held on June 27th, where friends and family from Mt. Shasta and Lake Chelan came together to honor her life. It was her parents’ tribute to their daughter: her grace and passion for life, her dreams, and the joy she brought to those around her.
As John, Terra and Rhyder begin to rebuild their lives, let’s help ease the burden of costs that came with this loss. No family plans for an event like this. This is our opportunity to reach out and support the family. Please help with any amount that you can.
