Saving Fred!

My name is Karen and on August 19 it became apparent to me that my little dog Fred was ill. I took him to Pender Vet Center the next day hoping that it was a urinary tract infection - but unfortunately it was more serious than that. He had a urinary blockage and had to be hospitalized for about four days. The vet inserted a catheter and Fred was put on an IV and treated with antibiotics. The infection cleared up however he was still blocked. One kidney and ureter was dilated and swollen. The vet said there was a mass on his prostate which he suspected was cancerous. And he believed it was Transitional Cell Carcinoma. He told me about a surgical procedure where they insert a stent so that he could urinate. Of course I was unprepared, both emotionally and financially! Luckily I have an animal lover friend, Natalie, who stood by, giving me emotional support and advice. It was at about this time that I/we thought to start this fundraiser, and my friend also helped me with networking. Thanks to her I made the decision to take Fred to the Hope Advanced Veterinary Center where the vet at Pender had told us that they did that stent procedure. They also had an Oncology Department where my friend Natalie’s dog had been treated for Cancer and was now Cancer-free!
Unfortunately I had a rather bad experience there as they did not do the stent procedure and did not really give me a definitive diagnosis about the cancer. I don’t think the Oncologist even saw Fred!? They did give me a bill for $6,429.59 and they suggested euthanizing Fred. (I will be posting photos and some video and you will see that it wasn’t necessary to euthanize him so it makes me angry that they suggested that!?)  My friend stood by me again and advised me and we said NO to Euthanasia. I took Fred home and we worked on raising the funds to get him the stent surgery.

Thank you for ANY help you can give.
And we would appreciate your prayers too!
