24-Hour Swim in aid of Pieta House

ESB Swimming Club will be running a significant charity event in December 2022 in aid of Pieta House. Within our organisation, many athletes have called for more involvement in helping charities throughout our active season.

After much discussion and careful consideration, we have guided the swimmers to select Pieta House to be the focal point of our attention. We hope to highlight their fantastic work and achieve a number of outcomes as follows:

• Highlight the range of support services the charity offers to those in suicidal distress or engaging in self-harm

• Raise funds on behalf of the charity via the platform “GoFundMe”, which will potentially have a significant impact on people’s lives

• Provide two talks with Mental Health experts so that all members of the ESB Swimming Club and the Sportsco community can understand the importance of communication and messaging, to eradicate the stigma around the topic

• Create a framework of messaging that promotes positive mental health and aids in dealing with difficult situations in an effective manner

The event would take the form of a 24-Hour swim involving as many as 100 swimmers to complete the longest distance possible within the timeframe. We will run the entire event in Sportsco, South Lotts Road, Ringsend from midday on December 23rd – midday on December 24th.
