Fighting for Felix

Donation protected
In July 2022, the Burgess family received the devastating news that Felix, 17, was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare cancer that occurs in the bones and soft tissues around the bones. Felix underwent a gruelling and intensive treatment regime, including a 15-hour pelvic replacement, as well as countless chemotherapy and radiation cycles, blood transfusions, biopsies, scans and bone marrow aspirations. He spent over 200 nights at the Royal Children’s Hospital, missing out on milestones, such as celebrating his 18th birthday and his final year of high school.

By the end of last year, Felix had only just started the recovery process and was learning to walk again using crutches. Sadly, the family’s joy was cut short only a couple of weeks ago, with a routine scan showing that the cancer had returned after only a few months, this time in Felix’s lungs.

Treatment options for Ewing’s are limited in Australia, with no new advancements since the 1970s. The family was devastated to learn that the gruelling and intensive treatment regime that Felix had previously undergone would not be enough this time due to the severe and aggressive nature of the disease.

Beating Ewing's for a second time will be extremely challenging. His medical team is now considering every possible treatment option, both locally and overseas, including alternative treatments with integrative oncologists. These treatments are very costly, but the only option for Felix.

In July 2022, we raised funds so that Elesha could give up her work temporarily and support Felix through his treatment. This time, we are raising funds so that Felix can undergo these treatment options so that he has a chance at life. The family has been very grateful for people’s love and support during this battle so far. It’s never easy to ask for help, but if you could spare a few dollars and share the link to support Felix, we would be very grateful.

The link will remain open indefinitely and updates shared on the page.

With deep gratitude,
Rosie x
