Justice For Geraldine Settee

On Jan. 1, 1970, 11 year old Geraldine Settee went out to the store to buy snacks in the safe suburb of St. Vital, Winnipeg, MB. She was murdered. Her case has remained unsolved for over 50 years. Not only is she one of the oldest unsolved cases in Winnipeg, but in Canada as well and certainly one of the oldest MMIWG cases. Her case has had very little awareness and exposure through the years. There was no social media back in 1970, and no internet, and the world quickly moved onto the next tragedy and her case was buried.

 

I am her nephew and have always been bothered about what happened to her, but moreso, the lack of resolution for my family has been devastating. We want to raise awareness for who she was as a person, but also to get answers as to what happened. A 14 year old boy was the main suspect at the time and was arrested and was going to go to trial for her murder on Aug. 11, 1971, but the charges were stayed and he was released soon after that on 10,000 dollars bail. We want to uncover the whole story, and as the main suspect was a Youth Offender at the time, it adds a layer of complexity in getting information.

 

I am donating my own time to investigate, contact people, and run Geraldine's Facebook group at Justice For Geraldine Settee. I am raising money to help offset the costs of hiring a private investigator, as well as general costs like gas, supplies, etc.
