Support Sydney's Diabetes Camp Journey

Dear Supporter,

My name is Sydney Setka and I am 11 years old. When I was 7 my grandma said that I was drink a lot of water and getting super skinny. My mom also noticed that I was crying a lot. I went to the doctor and they poked my finger and said my sugar was really high. They told us to drive straight to the hospital where they were waiting for us to arrive. I came home 5 days later with Type 1 diabetes. We stopped at the store for healthy foods and I got to pick new and fun treats. I am in 5th grade, one of two diabetics in my K-8 school, and I teach my class about my diabetes at the beginning of the year. I even was able to have the school celebrate world diabetes month and make a announcment about the signs and symptoms of diabetes. No one really understand what it is like when I feel low or high and my pump beeps.

When I went to Camp Conrad Chinnock it made me feel like I am not alone. Everyone was beeping all the time, not just me. People had pumps and glucose monitors on their body like I do. There was low snacks at reach all the time. I actually feel like people know what it is like! I love being able to meet kids my age that get me and diabetes.

I love that my family can go with me to camp too. My mom gets to talk with other diabetes mom, and my dad with dads. My brother gets to play with other kids who are like me or have siblings with diabetes. I am in need of financial support to attend camp this year. It costs $3620 for my family to attend camp and then I will get to stay for a week by myself.

Please help me go to camp!
