If any of you have ever met my husband, Andrew, you know that he would give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need. Not many of you know of the surgeries he has had to go through this passed year. Last year, just a few months before we got married, he had to have his big toe amputated due to former health issues. We thought that would fix his problems and he would be able to return to work normally after he healed. That was until last week when he noticed a small blister on one of his smaller toes. What turned into a regular podiatrist check-up turned into him being admitted to the hospital and having to have a partial foot amputation.
Surgery went better than the doctor expected and he is currently in the hospital recovering. They removed all five toes on his left foot down past the joints, as well as making a slit in his achillies tendon so that he might be able to walk normally after he heals.
Andrew is strictly non-weight bearing for the next several weeks, possibly months, and then he is facing multiple months of physical therapy to learn how to balance and walk again.
Andrew has promoted up to Lieutenant at his current job, but he will be unable to work for several months due to this surgery and the healing time. I am so proud of how hard-working he is and the way he dedicates himself to his job. The issue right now is that his job rarely allows 'light duty' (we've tried.. they always say no) and his current position requires him to be on his feet for 12-13 hours a day. He will not be able to return to work, most likely, until the end of the year.
The next year is looking pretty rough for us, financially. I'm not sure that I am able to keep up with the household on my salary alone. If you guys wouldn't mind to share our story, we would greatly appreciate it. Every bit helps more than you could imagine.
We love you guys.
