The Hansen Family Support Fund
Donation protected
We have started this Go Fund Me with the consent of the Hansen family.
To say that Chris, his wife, Kelsey and their two kids, Ben (6) and Andie (4) have had a rough few years would be an understatement.
While working for the Williams Lake RCMP in 2018 at the age of 28, Chris had what was supposed to be a routine appendectomy. However, a biopsy of his burst appendix revealed that he had colon cancer. This resulted in another surgery and 6 months of Chemotherapy. His first born, Ben was only 1 year of age at the time.
Chris was able to beat cancer and returned to work patrolling the busy streets of Williams Lake, BC in 2019. Unfortunately, cancer has a way of changing one’s perspective. Some of his co-workers noticed a change in his behaviour. The “joker” of the office was more solemn and quiet. This led to Chris seeking help for his mental health and he was diagnosed with PTSD.
Chris was scheduled to attend the Ravensview Clinic for PTSD treatment in early 2022. Unfortunately, a few days before he was to leave for the clinic, Chris was diagnosed with Cancer again after finding a tumour in his abdominal wall. The Hansen family was now a family of 4 with Andie being 3 years old and Ben 5. Chris went through another surgery and chemo once again.
At the end of 2022, after beating cancer once again, Chris was finally able to attend Ravensview Clinic and completed his treatment for PTSD and was excited to return to work again. Once again however, cancer struck. This time Chris was diagnosed with stage 4, incurable colon cancer which has spread to his liver, pelvis, hips, tailbone, femur, skull, shoulder blades, spine, clavicle and sternum. He has since been going through radiation and chemotherapy.
The last 3.5 years has also made it impossible for Kelsey to contribute with her own career. Two RCMP relocations, two young children and Chris’s escalating medical needs, it has left her unable to commit to her career in any full-time capacity. Kelsey is the primary caregiver for Ben, Andie and Chris’ medical needs. This has left Chris as the primary financial contributor for the family.
Being the fighters that they are, the Hansen family have not stopped fighting since 2018 and continue the fight to this day. We have started this Go Fund Me to support the Hansen family through unexpected medical costs, potential house upgrades (wheelchair ramp) and a future education fund for Ben and Andie.
