Vision Restoration

My name is Andrea - known as “Teacher Annie” by many. Since I was very young I’ve been blind in one eye and have extremely poor vision in the other - blind as a bat, as they say. I’ve had multiple surgeries, therapies, innovative contacts/glasses combinations etc. throughout my life and have managed with one functioning eye with barely better than 20/40 vision at best when corrected.

Well, as attractive as these coke bottle glasses I currently wear are, they are no longer working to give me the vision I need to perform the work I do with children and families, drive safely in the dark and to enjoy things I used to, like reading and writing or even watching movies with my family. I have a very high prescription with an additional astigmatism and most optical places can’t fill it and most insurance will only cover a small portion of the cost of my lenses. Fortunately for the past 5 years I’ve been able to pay out of pocket (which has ranged from $400-$1200 just for lenses) for glasses when my prescription changes. However, I recently had a prescription change in February and after making and remaking the lenses several times I have been told they can’t do it. Not good news.
The good news is that I have been encouraged by my optometrist that I am a good candidate for RLE or ICL surgery to restore vision in my right eye (the one that functions). This surgery is covered by insurance IF a person has a cataract. I do not (good news/not good news) have a cataract so I will need to pay out of pocket. I’m asking for help from my community and any others who feel compelled to help me SEE! The surgery will cost around $6,000 and requires 4-6 weeks recovery till sight is restored. I happen to have the month of July off work this summer and would really like to use that time to get this done… Thank you for considering assisting with this goal - any little bit helps and is so appreciated!
