Stemcell Transplant

Donation protected
Hi. I am Tom Backus. In 2021 I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. I was told it was not serious. Fast forward to June of 2022, I ended up at Mayo Clinic, and they wanted to review my biopsy. It had invaded my kidneys. After months of chemo, I am now able to move forward with Stem Cell transplant surgery in September.

This is great news, and insurance will cover the surgery. What it won't cover is the necessary housing for 2 months and wages lost due to being on disability pay. The total for that is around 10,000. 5,000 for housing and about 5,000 for lost wages.

As I was leaving chemo on the day I got the news, I shared it with the staff. One of the ladies came from behind the desk to give me a great big hug with happy tears in her eyes. She said it was because of the shirt. I have been wearing the above shirt to chemo because it is bright and chipper, and has little Nebraska's on it. (Where I was born). The nurse that came out is a Hawkeye fan, so that is also part of the joke of the shirt. He told me I have to check in with them during the procedure to let them know how it is going.

Peace
Tom
