Doc Gibbs Memorial
Donation protected
On September 15th, legendary master percussionist, band leader, and educator, Leonard “Doc” Gibbs lost his battle to cancer. Doc lived an extraordinary life as a musician and performer, to the delight of audiences all over the world – young and old. He called it “A Journey of the Drum”. He will be remembered not only for his unique contributions to Jazz, R&B, and Soul but also for his generosity of spirit, kind mentorship and his humorous personality.
His passing has stunned a global music community who adored him. Doc was a deeply respected priest of the Yoruba faith. He studied and played the sacred Bata Drums. His Yoruba family at large honor his devotion and artistry. Doc is lovingly survived by his two children Ayoola and Ade Gibbs, his two grandchildren Casey and Ade Jr, his sister Almeda Smith, his brother Wayne Smith, his nephew Dion Smith, and his wife Cathy Gibbs who was by his side as he transitioned. We are asking for your donations to help with funeral expenses and to assist in the financial support of his wife as she heals from the loss of her loving husband and best friend.
Our family is grateful for your generous support, compassion, and condolences.
