Hello!
I am Clara Young and I am a golfer beginning my journey to obtain my LPGA and LET playing cards. I am from North Berwick, Scotland, and for as long as I can remember it has been my dream to play professional golf on tour.
Background:
After a successful Junior career representing the Scottish National Team on 10+ occasions, I played college golf at The University of Missouri [Mizzou]. I was a constant starter on the team, helping Mizzou to 2 NCAA Regional berths and their best ever SEC Championship finish. I also managed to place in the top 5 individually on 3 occasions and capture the individual program records for 2nd lowest tournament round (66) and 4th lowest 54 hole total (-9). The competition in the SEC prepared me well for major Amateur events at home too; in 2015 I won the Scottish Women’s Amateur, and in 2017 I won the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews (previous winners include Annika Sorenstam, Catriona Matthew and Mel Reid).
I decided to stay at Mizzou for a 5th year to obtain my Masters in Accounting and sit the CPA Exam. After passing the CPA Exam, I returned home to Scotland to focus on my golf game and play amateur golf full time in preparation for turning professional. I now feel that the time is right to turn professional this year. Golf is my passion and I am determined to achieve my dream of playing on the LPGA Tour!
The future:
This summer, I will stay amateur* for now to compete in the Scottish Women’s Amateur, St Rule Trophy and British Women’s Amateur in June. I will then travel to the US in late June to play some mini tour events on the Women’s All Pro Tour in preparation for Stage I of LPGA Q School. My travel plans to the US for this summer are provisional due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and UK travel restrictions, if I am unable to go to LPGA Q school this year I will go next year. During the fall I will be preparing for Ladies European Tour (LET) Qualifying School, the date for which is TBC (likely December 2021 or January 2022).
The costs to become established as a playing professional are quite large. Expenses such as tournament fees, tour fees, travel, hotels, rental cars, practice rounds, etc. all add up. LPGA Qualifying School entry alone is $2,500 for Stage I and $3,000 for stage II. Naturally, as an accountant, I plan on organizing my schedule so that I can minimize expenses by sharing with other players and staying with friends and family. I have estimated that in order to get on tour within the next year and a half, my costs will be somewhere in the region of $30,000. This will fund preparation, playing in mini tour events and Q schools. I have worked a number of winter jobs and can contribute $8,000 myself but I am seeking sponsorship to help me cover the remaining costs. I would be very grateful for any support. Every little helps and no donation is too small.

I am extremely thankful for your support!

*funds raised will go to an account at the Missouri Golf Association (MGA) so that I can keep my amateur status.
