Yankin Children's Hospital, Myanmar

Yankin Children's Hospital in Yangon, Myanmar is a 500 bed tertiary care referral teaching hospital, one of only two pediatric hospitals in the entire nation. The hospital is state owned and operated and the cardiac disease department contains the only pediatric cardiology and pediatric cardiac surgery units in the country. All children with heart disease in Myanmar who need specialized care are referred to this department. . Due to the large clinical workload and insufficient work space, construction of a new cardiac building was begun late last year using funds donated by Myanmar citizens (the state provides a very small budget for the hospital) . However, construction has now been halted due to insufficient funds for installation of oxygen, air, and vacuum pipelines for the operating room, cardiac intensive care unit , and cardiac surgery and medical wards. The shortfall after additional donations from within the country is about $70,000. Completion of construction of the cardiac diseases building will potentially benefit all children with congenital and acquired heart disease in Myanmar. Myanmar Children's Foundation is a ten year old 501c3 approved organization based in Davis CA. Our goal is to raise $2500 and match it with $2500 from our previously accumulated funds.
