Yannapa

Yannapa is a non profit service project that aims to raise funds to provide children in a town named Chosica with a nutritious breakfast. Chosica is a town located 18.5 km east of Lima, Peru. Every year, since 2011, our yearly goal has been to surpass the number of children we have served breakfast to in the previous years. This year we served 35 kids. Therefore, we hope to serve more this upcoming year and even more the years to come.

I was born in Lima, Peru but I was raised in Miami, FL. Even though I moved to Miami when I was around nine months and have lived here ever since, I was raised in a very Peruvian household, where we practice many Peruvian traditions. For us Peruvians, family is everything. Therefore, my family and I visit the rest of our family in Peru just about every summer. We enjoy the food, our family, and the culture. Being from there, I noticed that there are a lot of children in need. According to Unicef, 38% of the children in Peru live in extreme poverty. Growing up, I knew I wanted to do something to help my country because I knew that even the smallest act of kindness could make a difference.

Since 1990, a close family friend, Needi Cano Dominguez has been dedicating her mornings to serving breakfast everyday to a small group of children of low income. When my family found out, we knew we wanted to get involved and expand this project. That is how “Yannapa” came about. “Yannapa” means “to help or to serve” in Quechua, a Peruvian dialect. With your help, we know we will be able to reach our goal.

We know that every child has dreamed of receiving a toy from Santa. Beginning in 2015, we implemented a special Christmas breakfast to make this dream come true. We hope to be able to host more events like this one for them. Thanks again for all the support.
