Yarrow Ecovillage Community Farm Wash Station!

The Yarrow Ecovillage Community Farm is a 20 acre multi generational certified organic farm located in Yarrow BC near the banks of the Vedder River. This farm is on the site of the Yarrow Ecovillage (www.groundswellcohousing.ca), one of the first eco conscious cohousing complexes of its kind, displaying a easier footprint on the land as well as a model for a closer living experience to the land and to neighbors from all walks of life.

The YECF Farm incubates 17 small organic farms, 11 of which are producing mixed vegetables, fruit, herbs, flowers, and starter plants for the immediate and larger community. This model allows for access to low cost, secure, and high quality farmland for new and experienced farmers who might not otherwise have a space to learn, market, and contribute to the larger food security web of the region.

We’re looking to fund a GAP certified professional wash station to help our small organic farms flourish in the marketplace. Currently, our farmers can only sell at farmer’s markets and direct sales/CSAs, but a wash station would allow them to contract to restaurants, distributors, and stores. Our wash station has not seen upgrades in 15 years and is a crucial part of our infrastructure. Below is a photo of the current structure:

The great thing is, we already purchased a structure! The Farm Team (all operations holding leases at YECF) recently sourced a 26’ x 20’ steel building kit for under market value (14k), which now needs a poured concrete foundation, plumbing, and electrical. These additional projects & supplies are above and beyond our budget for this year, having invested in the structure itself. Our wishlist above and beyond this fundraiser is to find to find sources or individuals who have stainless steel tables and double sinks for sale, donation, or pickup in the surrounding community so that we can furnish our new wash station with quality equipment for our farmers.
