Yasemin's Legacy

Hello,

My name is Yasemin, I'm raising money in aid of OcuMel UK and every donation will help.

I am 49 years old and until January 2021 I have enjoyed a wonderful life with my husband and daughter in Canterbury. I love spending time with my friends and family, visiting new and exciting places, cooking for friends and my work as the Ophthalmology booking coordinator for East Kent Hospital. My time has truly been vibrant and blessed.

In September 2012, I was diagnosed with a very rare eye cancer (Choroidal Melanoma).

This Melanoma affects the back of the eye between the sclera (the white bit) and the retina, the light-sensitive area, which sends information to the brain.

I received Proton Beam therapy, in October 2012, which at the time was the only recognised treatment and was only available at Clatterbridge Hospital in Liverpool, Merseyside.

I was overjoyed when my consultant Mr Sagoo told me that the treatment had been successful but unfortunately it left me partially blind. However, more importantly, it gave me with my life, which I have lived to the fullest ever since.

In January this year after a fabulous Christmas, I was diagnosed with terminal liver melanoma metastases after a routine check. Successful treatment options, such as Chemosaturation therapy are no longer available to me as I have lost a large amount of my liver. Lack of treatment is due to limited research into this rare cancer.

In July this year, I will be turning 50. I would love to mark this milestone birthday by asking you all to help make a difference and donate whatever you can to OcuMel UK.

This charity has needed much research in this rare form of cancer and in turn, this may give patients a better chance of beating this disease in the future.

Raising funds for research would be a wonderful way for me to say thank you to those who have looked after me over the years and for me to leave a small legacy behind. My hope is that these funds will go towards finding a way to help those in the future overcome this disease.

Thank you in advance for your contribution to a cause that means so much to me.

Love to you all x

Yasemin
