Support Casey as he Fights Cancer

Casey and I have been friends for over 30 years. From kindergarten to prom to hiking in the Cascades, our friendship has grown into adulthood. My family considers Casey one of ours. This week we were devastated by the news that he has stage 4 cancer in his colon and liver, and will begin treatment immediately. He's transitioning to living with my partner Kevin and me in Portland, where he can get the best care possible at OHSU. My brother Tristan, sister-in-law Kayla, and other friends and family members are also committed to sharing Casey's care. It will be a long and challenging road, but we've all promised Casey he has our shared support and commitment to fighting this together.

Casey has been sick and unable to work for about two months. His doctors foresee years of treatment and do not expect he'll be well enough to work anytime soon. As a self-employed tattoo artist, Casey doesn't have the cushion of sick pay or leave of any kind. His medical insurance will cover some costs, but the out-of-pocket expenses have already been significant. The last few weeks of medical bills have depleted his savings, and we've only just begun. We are requesting the help of Casey's community to cover treatment, transportation, moving and living expenses for the next two(?) years. I honestly have no idea how to budget for this unknowable hardship, but this felt like a starting place. We'll adjust the goal as needed over time. Casey should not have to stress about money on top of the unbearable weight of a diagnosis like this.

Anyone who has met Casey knows this world is better with him in it. His gentleness, creative spirit, and ability to connect to people set him apart as a truly unique soul. He's shared a lifetime of friendship and love with my family and me. We're going to fight like hell to extend his life, and infuse it with as much comfort and joy as we can.
