Help Jonathon with medical bills

Donation protected
Hi everyone, I first want to start this with how incredibly hard it is for me to ask for help in this situation. This is not something I want to do nor am proud of, but it’s what I need to do and, in reality, what I should’ve done weeks ago.

My name is Jonathon Haggitt, I am 23 years old, and I was a motorcycle stunt rider. I have been riding since I was 3 years old and have had my share of injury, but this is by far the worst. On Friday October 6th I was involved in an accident while riding with a group of friends here in Denver. Luckily nobody else was affected by the accident. I hit a curb going about 30-35mph and was thrown into oncoming traffic. I was rushed to the hospital via ambulance where I suffered from a compound fractured humorous bone (bicep). I also suffered severe nerve damage from my left ear to my finger tips. Words can not even come close to explaining the excruciating pain I endured that night and the weeks to follow. I received surgery where they untangled the nerve that was twisted around the bone and stretched an additional 3.5 inches. A plate and 7 permanent screws were put into my arm (37 staples and 2 stitches), and they realized I’d suffer from having a paralyzed wrist. I stayed 3 more days in the hospital where I was under close supervision and needed help with everything - This is how the next 3 weeks following surgery would look as well. The arm will heal as predicted within 4-5 months, and then I will need to do extensive physical and occupational therapy to gain back full functionality. The nerve damage is another story and one where things get hard and frustrating at times - Per the doctor, we still do not know how long that will take to come back - a year or more at the least. I may need a second surgery on it in 6 weeks, but for now it is a limp noodle with no response to movement yet.

I am extremely blessed in many ways through this, like having my amazing girlfriend by my side. She not only opened her home to me and let me stay with her out of the hospital, but she was also there to help me walk, bathe, cook, eat, change bandages, and drive me everywhere as I couldn’t drive for 7 weeks post-surgery.

This is where things get tough financially and where I find myself in the position of needing to reach out for help. One week out of surgery when I still couldn’t walk on my own or even go to the bathroom, I was fired from my job as a project manager over text message with no reasoning or warning. I was never asked how long I’d be unable to work or if I could preform another job within the company - convenient for them winter was around the corner when I got hurt so one less person to pay. So this has now left me with no form of income but still rent, truck, insurance, credit, and medical bills to pay.

With no income I was forced to move out of my home and into a storage unit, and, for the time being, my wonderful girlfriend is letting me stay with her while I heal and get back on my feet financially. This time has been extremely hard physically, financially, and emotionally on me and my whole family. This all is not easy to explain by any means, but with all of these factors weighing on me, essentially losing my passion in life, and having a paralyzed wrist. I signed up for therapy to try and better my mental health. Which is just yet another bill, but it is important to me in this time.

At this point now I am moving about pretty well with constant mild pain, and trying my best to bring my wrist back and relearn how to use my hand and fingers.

Doing this is extremely uncomfortable and hurts my pride in every way. I wanted to be 100% truthful and honest in my explanation of why I need help.

I understand that my choice of hobby has put me in this position, and it has really opened my eyes to the risk v.s reward. Stunting was my passion and my love, but I can not and will not put myself and my loved ones through this again.

If you have read this far, I extend my sincere gratitude. Your consideration means the world to me. I don’t expect everyone or anyone to donate, but if your a fellow rider or someone with a risky hobby. I hope my story serves as a reminder of life’s fragility beyond the sports we love. Any contribution big or small, will help alleviate the financial burden and stress that is continuing to build up.

 Thank you truly,

 Jonathon Haggitt.
