Kidney Transplant Travel Help

UPDATE: Well everyone this is hard to write. We are in CO getting ready for the surgery to happen on October 10, only to find out today that Amanda's surgeon was in an accident and has to have surgery himself. So the surgery is now postponed until November 28, 2023. So unfortunately we are in an even tighter spot of having to get back to VA and then return here to CO in November. Please don't feel obligated to donate but please keep Amanda, Deb and Bruce, ALONG with their surgery teams in your prayers!!

Hey everyone.

So you may or may not know but my wife’s (Amanda) dad (Bruce) is in need of a Kidney transplant. After finding this out, we both investigated becoming donors. After this process, we discovered that I do not qualify but AMANDA DOES!! So she got to surprise her mom and dad with this terrific gift!

But we have hit a snag. And I hate that I am asking this but we need help with travel expenses. There are programs that help direct donors to help cover travel and missed work expenses. Unfortunately, it is based on the income of the recipient, so no one qualified for this help.

The surgery is scheduled for the first week of October in Denver so we will need to travel the 26 hours back from Norfolk to Denver. Amanda will have to stay in Denver for a minimum of 10 days after the surgery, and I need to be there with her as her care provider. Her mom will be staying with Bruce so she will have her hands full. We will also be bringing the girls with us and have worked out their school situation as we will be in Denver for most of two weeks if not a little longer. Amanda also will be taking at least three days off with no pay, but hoping to work remotely if she is up to it health wise.

We have lodging taken care of and a vehicle. We are just hoping that we can raise money to help cover the cost of our flights to and from Denver and some extra to cover any food and other expenses. Anything you can chip in would be appreciated but mostly we ask that you include Bruce, Deb, and Amanda in your prayers as we prepare for this adventure!
